The past 2016 was a turning point for all of us and for all the oil and gas industry in Ukraine. Act to increase the rent for hydrocarbon production, which was adopted in 2015, actually completed the drilling of oil and gas in the private sector. Well workover took the significant part of the work this year. Among 12 wells which were operational last year 10 were under workover. IEM Witer II takes hold. It will be used for drilling and initial opening of productive horizons in the beginning of January.
Great hopes are pinned on the state-owned enterprises, which this year were allowed to recruit private service companies. Transparent electronic procurement system, eliminating all corrupt trade component and allowing private companies to enter the market fairly began its work. We have already taken advantage of this system, and currently mud customer service at one of the wells is being conducted. The drilling of that well is being accomplished by the state owned enterprise.
The past year has been eventful. We started the friendship and cooperation with one of the oldest research institutions in the field of drilling and operation of wells R&D Institute «Neftegaz» (Azerbaijan). We visited the institute and invited its representatives. In honor of this special international conference, «Geodrilling» was organized. This was our first experience in organizing such events. Everything went well. We had a lot of discussions, exchange of experiences, besides, we made new friends. This year will be remembered as an outstanding event: for 20 years of labor activity our cleaning systems have been used at 250 wells. It is a great achievement for us.
Co-operation with universities has extended. In collaboration with the company DTEK educational and research laboratory of drilling fluids in PoltNTU named after Yuri Kondratyuk has been renovated and equipped. Top students that are also would-be drillers continue to practice in our company. The cooperation with scientists from the University of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas is strengthening.
We continue to expand our material and technical base. We bought a new minibus and BDP (block of preparation of drilling fluids) with a volume of 25 cubic meters, for faster reworking and preparation of a new volume of drilling fluids. We also continue equipping the service base. The third laboratory designed for doing the researches, that require a powerful laboratory influx-and-extract ventilation system, has been created. We started the construction of the third floor of an office building. Our company is moving forward, and we are continuing to develop.
On the eve of the New Year, the government has reduced the rent for production. We hope that such a mistake will not happen again, for this is unacceptable at a time when Ukraine is in a stage of war with the aggressor, which may affect the energy security, to put its own oil and gas industry to its knees. We believe that in the nearest future drilling volumes will recover, and together we will achieve energy independence.
