Development and service of drilling fluid

Инвертный эмульсионный буровой раствор - Witer II

In the Soviet Union there was an unwritten rule - no drilling fluid development could not go to the series, if it has not been tested in Ukraine. This was the case for oil-based systems. Of course, Ukraine drilling fluid specialist did not remain aloof from these tests, took active part in them and hard to develop this area.

For AG Rozengaft the first in the Soviet Union developed the fundamentals of management principles and invert emulsion drilling fluids. They were obtained based invert emulsion of oxidized petrolatum (SMAD) which was one of the first drilling fluids of this type.

V.Z. Luban is one of the authors of the first Soviet recipe facing oil emulsion cement fluid (ONETSR), which was used for fixing holes in plastic chemogenic deposits.

In parallel, under the guidance of Ph.D. prof. Mukhin L.K. (MINH and GP named Gubkin), conducted industrial tests anhydrous OBM - lime-bituminous solution (IDB). The work was done on Sagaydakska, Radchenko, Brateshkinska areas (Poltava region). All this can be found in AG Rozengaft, V.Z. Luban, L.K. Mukhin abstracts in the Library section.

At the same time, on the issue of OBM UkrGIPRONIIneft working team, headed by V.I. Tokunov. The result of their work was the creation of a new EDI-based emulsifier - "Ukramin." V.I. Tokunov and I.B. Heifetz - authors, probably the most famous Soviet monograph on the subject - "hydrophobically-emulsion drilling fluids." So the use of OBM in Ukraine has a long history.

Unfortunately, the works in this direction were interrupted. Tom had a lot of reasons, including environmental and fire hazard, high cost, etc. But the most important, perhaps, was a strong competition from, at the time the new, polymer drilling fluids largely not inferior to OBM.

Today, the situation is changing. Investors are willing to pay for expensive drilling fluids, but do not wish to hear anything even minimum deterioration of reservoir properties. For OBM - a revival!

We foresaw this development more than a year and worked to create their own recipes EDI. Because of the hostilities, we were forced to terminate our relationship with RGU named I.M.Gubkin, our partners in this work was the Polish enterprise - a company PSPW (Krosno) and the Institute of Oil and Gas. The result - a new invert emulsion Witer II. The system withstood the tough test laboratory. Electric stability is 1000V, heat resistant 140°C, electric stability when you receive 20% of the hydrophilic clay material - 650V. ESI heavier barite or marble, depending on the desired density without reducing elektrostabilnosti indicator.

Now turn industrial tests. The first system Witer II will apply - as the completion fluid, then - for the initial opening of the drilling.

Let's wait for the results. Follow the news….
